Will There Be A ‘Hacks’ Season 3? There’s a Very Good Chance It’ll Come Back
2 min readThe funniest women on television are back for a second season. HBO Max just dropped the first two episodes of the highly anticipated second season of Hacks. Almost one year to the day of the season one premiere, season two is already delighting fans and begging the question, “will there be a season three?”
Here is everything you need to know about Hacks season 3.
So is the third season of Hacks actually happening?
Though there has yet to be any confirmation of a third season of Hacks, we can speculate that it’s coming. Season one of Hacks premiered in May 2021, and by June a second season was confirmed by HBO Max. In the coming weeks, we’ll surely hear more about the future of the hit comedy series, but if critical reception means anything, fans are in for the long haul.
Why do you think it has a good chance?
Last September, Hacks was a major title in the Emmy’s ring, racking up 6 nominations: Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Actor nominations for Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins. In the end, Jean Smart took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress, and the show snagged the statues for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing.
Rotten Tomatoes, which assigned season one a “100% certified fresh” rating, has already posted approval ratings for season two – 100% approval for the second year in a row.
Okay, for those of us who don’t watch, what is Hacks about?
Season one followed flailing comedy writer, Ava, in her new gig as writer’s assistant to a groundbreaking, glass ceiling shattering, aging female comedian, Deborah Vance (inspired by Joan Rivers), who has fallen out of touch with younger audiences. Paired together by their shared agent, Ava and Deborah must work together to write a stand-up show that pleases both the boomers and the millennials. The two disagree on almost everything from the purpose of comedy, to cancel culture, to feminism, to fashion. In the end, they find common ground as women and as comedians and kick off a cross country tour of new material, but not before a momentarily angry Ava pitches a nasty tell-all email to a pair of producers looking to make a show about a diva-type comedian, not so subtly inspired by Deborah Vance.
Enter season two, which is teasing a bit more sweetness with the same searing comedy that sold us last year. Season two will consist of eight episodes, with two dropping every Thursday until June 2.
